Combat PD
As of 2019, there are about 8,000 people living with Parkinson’s disease (PD) in Singapore – that is translated into about three in every 1,000 individuals aged 50 years and above (MOH, 2019 https://www.moh.gov.sg/news-highlights/details/speech-by-mr-gan-kim-yong-minister-for-health-at-move-to-beat-parkinson-2019#:~:text=Today%2C%20there%20are%20approximately%208%2C000,in%20Singapore%2C%20after%20Alzheimer’s%20disease accessed on 30 Apr 2023).
The medical care for PD in Singapore at the moment seems to focus a lot more on symptomatic treatment. Comprehensive patient and caregiver education about the disease is missing from the time of diagnosis and preventive care approach or ways to delay the progression of the disease are left to the patients, caregivers and Google. We seek to share information about how we are combat PD as patients and caregivers – be it exercises that we found to be beneficial or latest devices, interventions, research and trials that we discovered through this site. Together, we can better combat PD.
